Turkey Trot and Gobbler Gallop!
I was running around crazy during Thanksgiving, literally! Together with some friends we left Crossville at 4:30 AM on Thanksgiving to go to the "Hot to Trot" turkey trot in Knoxville! It was a 5k, and great course. I had fun being crazy with girls going this race! Then on Saturday after Thanksgiving I did the "Gobbler Gallop" state park mountain 11k! It was steep hills and brutal test of endurance!! But, I had my parents and kids there cheering me on!! "Go Mommy" can make any mother run faster!!
Turkey Hot to Trot
My 5k was a personal record 23:33, and I placed second! But this mug was the award, a brown mug that says "Hot to Trot. Really, the first place runner was given a new pair of running shoes??!!!
Celia and Joseph needed a snack after all the cheering!
Dave's wife Sarah is a good friend of mine! Here we are with our 3rd place and first place trophies!

Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving! I have so many things to be thankful for! We enjoyed great food and fellowship with friends and family! The kids had a blast playing with their very distant cousins at the farm!
Johnathan investigating the turkey leg!Joseph spent the majority of his day learning and helping Uncle Clay carve the turkey! One day he will be an expert when he has a family of his own! :)
We were thrilled to have Dr. Wagner visiting from Indiana!
Johnathan thought Granna's plate was better!
Aunt Anne is sooo special, she has been with us EVERY Thanksgiving since childhood!
Silly Papa, and Jayne Elizabeth setting him straight!
Awe, I am so thankful for my husband!
With a big day behind them and no nap Uncle Clay's lap is exactly where the twins wanted to be, asleep.

Day #6: oh my, Mt. Wrightson!!
We hiked Mt Wrightson which is the highest peak in the Santa Rita Mountains, measuring in at 9453 feet. It is a class A hike. This was the steepest and most strenuous exercise I have done! This was a steady climb with over 10 miles round trip! It took 6.5 hours to complete. Neddless to say the kids stayed home with Nana! We took hydration packs for plenty of water and became very aware of wildlife. There is a saddle two miles into the hike which offered dramatic views of this peak.
The last mile or two to the summit was dangerous!! Very narrow paths of steep rocks, and ripping wind! Even if the mountain looks clear from the lower part, this view from the southwest is deceptive; the final approach is along the north slope of the mountain, which receives very little sunlight during the winter and is thus far more prone to ice. Yes, on the ground the temperature was 76 but the upper trail had ice! OKAY- enough background information. I SAW A BEAR!!!!! Yep, I saw the brown bear looking right at me only 10 feet away!! After I screamed and flung myself into my father-in-law, my cautious husband scrambled for the camera and did capture the bear's behind running away!!! I think the adrenaline from the bear episode kept me going through the hike! Enjoy our pictures!
Words of the day: #!*$*!** bear, chapstick, PB&J sandwich, advil
Leaving the parking lot, at the trailhead! One way. ha ha!
Beginning the day, with the summit in the background
The men who protected me!! :)
Thick ice on the trail!
The last few miles were steep and rocky!
A happy couple at the top!
Father and son, task accomplished!
Great husband, carried my pack down the mountain AND gave me his sandwich too!

Nana's turkeys
Nana completed a three day turkey craft with the kids!! It took multiple days for paint to dry and feathers to be placed! It is soooo cute! I am sure these three turkeys will be the centerpiece for Thanksgiving dinner! Nana also taught them a song to go along with the craft while she kept the kids when we went on the hike!
A turkey is a funny bird
his head goes wobble, wobble
and all he says is just one word
gobble, gobble, gobble!
Oh I am glad I am not a turkey, a turkey, a turkey
oh i am glad I am not a turkey
on Thanksgiving day!
They stuff him, and bake him, then they all taste him
Oh i am glad i am not a turkey on Thanksgiving day!
( yes, I love my preschool teacher mother-in-law!! :)
Day #5: Tuscon Children's Museum
The activity of the day was the children's museum. It was very age appropriate for our kids! We had lots of fun! Most of our time was spent at the police and fire fighter center! Pretend play was in full demonstration! Team work was so cute putting out the "fires!" Words of the day: museum, scorpion, purple onion, pyramid
Go officer Joseph, Go!!Dressed and ready to get to the scene of the fire! Adorable!
